“Nature Writing: Discovering Your Personal Landscape” blends hands-on outdoor observation, on-the-spot composing, and advice on writing style to enhance participants’ ability to describe the great outdoors. After cultivating place-based writing from the ground upward, the half-day workshop culminates in a “workshop” of sharing each other’s work and offering constructive feedback. The program closes with noon lunch.

Kevin Koch teaches creative writing at Loras College and hikes, bicycles, and cross-country skis the hills and valleys of northeast Iowa. His books include “The Driftless Land: Spirit of Place in the Upper Mississippi Valley” and “Skiing at Midnight: A Nature Journal from Dubuque County, Iowa”. His work has appeared in ‘The North American Review’, ‘Big Muddy’, and other publications, and he writes a bi-monthly nature column for ‘The Telegraph Herald’.
